Training and Technical Assistance
Local NGOs, institutions and grassroots organizations play a key role in supporting vulnerable communities around the world. Space2Live provides these organizations with skills and knowledge on how to use simple GPS technologies and mapping software which enables them to track and observe cases of land rights violations. In workshops, Space2Live trains them to capture geographic data, access and process satellite imagery and open-source data and to produce maps which illustrate conflicting land use patterns in collaboration with affected communities. The maps produced in the workshops can be used for negotiations between community members, investors and decision-makers which is an important step towards securing traditional land rights. At the same time, by sharing them via open-source platforms, they may be used for civil activism in cases where land rights violations actually take place.
The newly acquired mapping skills allow organizations to engage in community-mapping processes at a larger scale, thus increasing the impact and sustainability of their activities.
